This research presents the development of Smartchoice, a novel application designed to support decision-making in the selection and use of handheld chemical detection devices, particularly in the context of intentional chemical threats and accidental releases, including Natech (Natural Hazard Triggering Technological Disasters) events.

The study begins by underlining the increasing need for reliable and rapid chemical detection to enhance response capabilities during emergencies involving toxic substances. The app aims to aid first responders and hazmat teams in choosing the most appropriate detection technologies based on operational needs, detection thresholds (parts per million), and environmental indicators such as olfactory or visual cues.

A comprehensive field survey involving frontline operators revealed a unanimous consensus on the value and usability of such a tool, confirming the need for digital support in emergency decision-making processes.

By integrating chemistry, physics, environmental science, and emergency response strategies, the article proposes a practical tool that bridges the gap between technology and field application, offering a critical resource to enhance chemical risk preparedness and response.

This publication represents another milestone in the interdisciplinary efforts to improve CBRNe countermeasures and strengthen operational readiness in the face of chemical threats.
