Cultural Heritage and CBRNe Preparedness: Master CBRNe at the PROCULTHER-NET 2 International Workshop

Dear colleagues,

On May 14, 2025, Rome hosted the international workshop Harnessing Collective Knowledge to Strengthen Cultural Heritage Resilience: The Contribution of EU-Funded Projects in Addressing Growing Multiple Risks, organized within the framework of the PROCULTHER-NET 2 Project.

We are proud to announce that Dr. Gabriele Giuga, member of the Master CBRNe – University of Rome Tor Vergata, represented the eNOTICE2 Consortium at this important event. His participation contributed to the growing dialogue between cultural heritage protection and disaster risk management communities across Europe.

The workshop served as a strategic platform to bring together experts, researchers, decision-makers, and practitioners from various European countries—including Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Poland, Ukraine, Portugal, Greece, and Romania—with the goal of addressing the increasing vulnerability of cultural heritage in today’s complex risk landscape. Multiple and intersecting threats—ranging from armed conflict to climate-related hazards—were central to the discussions.

In addition to showcasing various EU-funded project contributions, the workshop explored:

  • Strategic frameworks for cultural heritage protection;

  • Scientific and technological tools to improve emergency responses;

  • Preparedness and training modules for enhanced resilience.

The event highlighted the vital role of cross-sector cooperation, especially in building multidisciplinary approaches capable of protecting Europe’s cultural legacy from modern risks.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Daniele Di Giovanni, Senior Researcher in CBRNe Security and supervisor of Dr. Giuga, for his continued guidance and commitment to excellence.

We also warmly acknowledge the support of Prof. Pasquale Gaudio, Principal Investigator for the University of Rome Tor Vergata in this project, whose strategic vision continues to drive the engagement of our Master CBRNe in key international initiatives.

This workshop marks another important step toward a resilient, integrated, and science-driven approach to cultural heritage protection in Europe.

Stay tuned for future collaborations and developments!
