New Scientific Publication on Risk Assessment for Nuclear Energy Infrastructures

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new open-access scientific article in the prestigious Journal of Instrumentation (JINST), published by IOP Publishing for Sissa Medialab.

Title:

Analysis of the Methods for Human-Induced Events Risk Evaluation for Critical Infrastructures like Energy Production Plants Based on Nuclear Reactions

Presented at:

Abstract:

As the global demand for sustainable and low-carbon energy sources intensifies, both nuclear fusion and fission technologies are regaining importance. This study, rooted in previous research by the authors, focuses on human-induced risk factors affecting critical nuclear infrastructures such as fission and fusion energy plants. It addresses threats including sabotage, cyberattacks, insider threats, and malicious interference using internationally recognized risk assessment methodologies.

The paper also presents proactive strategies to enhance resilience—such as threat-specific site analysis, redundant security systems, and tailored response protocols—offering valuable insights for both power-generating facilities and research institutions. The work aims to bridge regulatory frameworks with strategic risk management in the nuclear sector.
