CBRNe Innovation and International Cooperation: UNITOV at the Forefront with eNOTICE2

Dear colleagues,

From 5 to 7 June 2025, Dr. Gabriele Giuga from the research team of the University of Rome Tor Vergata had the honour of representing the institution at the SimEX 3 – Consortium Meeting of the eNOTICE2 project, held at the prestigious Campus Vesta in Belgium.

The first day focused on the latest developments in Virtual Reality (VR) training for first responders facing CBRNe emergencies. Special thanks go to the partners from METU (Turkey) and the SAFE Foundation for their innovative and inclusive solutions—such as decontamination protocols for prosthetics and vital electronic devices used by vulnerable individuals and persons with disabilities—opening the door for broader civilian applications.

During the second day, a plenary consortium meeting brought together all partners, where Dr. Giuga presented the results of recent work conducted with Dr. Daniele Di Giovanni and supervised by Prof. Pasquale Gaudio. Their proposal for a European CBRNe Digital Library—designed to enhance collaboration, knowledge exchange, and research among training centres, civil and military actors, and CBRNe stakeholders—was warmly welcomed by the consortium.

The third day featured a high-level Table Top Exercise involving Belgium’s top Disaster Risk Management authorities, including Civil Protection, Firefighters, and Police. The scenario simulated a coordinated response to a terrorist attack during a major public event, providing an invaluable opportunity for professional growth and operational exchange.

The eNOTICE2 project will conclude with its final event in Italy this November. Meanwhile, this meeting has already strengthened a dynamic, strategic, and highly connected European network, where the University of Rome Tor Vergata continues to play a pivotal role.
