On June 19th, 2025, the University of Rome Tor Vergata hosted a significant academic milestone for students of both the First and Second Level International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events.
We were honored to open the day with the thesis discussion of Dr. Sara Zangarini from the Italian National Firefighters Corps, who presented an insightful work on the psychological impacts on the prison population during emergencies. Her analysis contributes to the critical understanding of vulnerable groups in CBRNe scenarios, offering important implications for emergency planning and humanitarian protection.
The session continued with four students from the First Level Master CBRNe – First Responders Track:
• Qasim Saleh
• Mohamed Al Khan
• Rashed Alobaidli
All from the Police of the Kingdom of Bahrain, they showcased an impressive thesis on the CBRN response system in Bahrain, enriched by case studies, lessons learned, and a gap analysis focusing on chemical, radiological, and biological events in their national context.
Finally, Dr. Luca Delli Passeri from the Italian Civil Protection Department concluded the First Level Master with a remarkable study on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for risk prevention and preparedness, emphasizing how such tools can enhance decision-making during emergencies.
A heartfelt thank you to all supervisors, both internal and external, and to the Didactic Coordinators Dr. Alba Iannotti and Dr. Colomba Russo, as well as the members of today’s commission:
• Prof. Pasquale Gaudio
• Dr. Gabriele Giuga
• Dr. Claudio De Maio
• Prof. Andrea Malizia
Their guidance and commitment ensure the excellence and global relevance of the Master Courses.
