Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Rome Tor Vergata

Today, at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the thesis discussion of several candidates enrolled in the Second Level International Master Course in Protection Against CBRNe Events took place. The session highlighted interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches across sectors involved in CBRNe risk mitigation.

The candidates and their work included:

  • Simona La Gatta and Marco Visentin from the Italian State Police, who presented a set of experimental techniques for the laboratory detection of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) with a detailed discussion of their results.

  • Leonardo Fallace from the Italian Firefighter Corps, who proposed a novel Train-the-Trainer program tailored to enhance preparedness and operational readiness in CBRNe scenarios.

  • Firas Aldakak from the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, who introduced a new educational curriculum dedicated to increasing awareness and preparedness in CBRNe events within the education sector.

  • Alessandro Bruno from LARIMART, who showcased cutting-edge materials developed to enhance the protective capabilities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during CBRNe dispersions.

  • Angelo Lioce from the 7th CBRNe Regiment “Cremona” – Italian Army, who explored the integration of emerging technologies—such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR)—into CBRNe training and operational environments.

  • Manal Odeh, who analyzed current pandemic surveillance frameworks and provided recommendations for more effective monitoring and early response strategies.

We express our sincere appreciation to all thesis supervisors and members of the evaluation committee:
