Dr. Riccardo Quaranta Awarded PhD with Honors in Industrial Engineering at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”

Dear colleagues,

We are proud to announce that Dr. Riccardo Quaranta has been awarded his PhD in Industrial Engineering with honors (CUM LAUDE) by the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. The research was supervised by Professor Andrea Malizia, Director of the International Master Courses in Protection Against CBRNe Events.

Dr. Quaranta’s dissertation, entitled “Mapping radioactivity in Italy: environmental radioactivity and radiological emergencies”, stands out for its interdisciplinary approach and high scientific and operational relevance. The thesis presents an innovative interpolation model for mapping environmental radioactivity at a national scale, effectively integrating regulatory frameworks, principles of radiation protection, physical and radiological modeling, epidemiology, and GIS technologies.

The research addresses critical challenges in environmental and emergency radiological safety, offering practical tools and insights for both academic advancement and institutional applications — particularly for national authorities such as the Italian Fire and Rescue Service.

Conducted with complete independence, the work reflects Dr. Quaranta’s originality, methodological rigor, and strong scientific communication skills. His achievements further demonstrate the excellence of the doctoral training provided within the CBRNe academic ecosystem.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Quaranta and his supervisor, Prof. Andrea Malizia, for this outstanding accomplishment.
