This review article explains the conditions underlying the development of the Italian National Plan for the management of radiological and nuclear emergencies and its implementation methods. It analyzes the measures necessary to address accidents at nuclear power plants located across national borders—both in European and non-European countries—that may require national-level interventions.
The article describes the organizational model adopted for emergency management, outlining priority interventions at the national level to minimize the impact on the population and the environment.
