Graduation Ceremony of the International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events

The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome Tor Vergata hosted, on 5 December 2025, the solemn Graduation Ceremony of the International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events (First and Second Level). The event marked one of the most significant academic occasions of the year, bringing together graduates, families, instructors, institutional representatives, and national and international partners for a celebration of excellence, responsibility, and global commitment.

Wearing the traditional toga and academic cap, the graduates formally entered the international community of CBRNe specialists — a field whose relevance continues to grow in today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical and technological landscape.

The ceremony opened with an institutional greeting and proceeded with addresses delivered by the Didactic Coordinator of the Master Courses and by the Director of the Master Programmes, who highlighted both the solemnity of the event and the strategic importance of advanced education in the CBRNe domain.

A Message of Responsibility, Cooperation, and Global Awareness

In her opening remarks, the Didactic Coordinator underscored the significance of the journey undertaken by the students: months of intensive lectures, laboratory sessions, field exercises, scenario-based activities, and international training experiences. She emphasized how the Master’s programmes not only provide high-level scientific education, but also build a network of professionals capable of collaborating across institutions, sectors, and countries.

In a world where CBRNe risks intersect with global challenges such as hybrid conflicts, pandemics, environmental hazards, cyber–physical vulnerabilities, and the misuse of emerging technologies, she noted that the graduates now carry a responsibility that goes beyond academia.

The Director of the Master Programmes then delivered an extensive and heartfelt address, reflecting on the historical moment in which this new cohort graduates. He highlighted that today’s CBRNe specialists must operate in a world where threats evolve rapidly and unpredictably, demanding scientific competence, ethical awareness, and interdisciplinary cooperation. He stressed that leadership in this field is built on analytical rigour, integrity, humility, and preparedness.

He also thanked all the institutions, national and international, that collaborate with the Master Courses, reaffirming that no progress in CBRNe safety and security can be achieved without strong, coordinated networks.

The ceremony proceeded with formal thanks to the University of Rome Tor Vergata and all the academic authorities who contribute to the success and prestige of the Master Programmes:

  • Prof. Luigi Tonino Marsella, Director of the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention

  • Prof. Gianluca Verona Rinati, Director of the Department of Industrial Engineering

Gratitude was also expressed to all academic colleagues, visiting lecturers, institutional partners, staff members, administrative teams, technical personnel, and supporters who make the Master Courses possible through their daily effort and dedication.

A warm and heartfelt recognition was dedicated to families, friends, and loved ones who supported the students throughout their demanding journey. Their encouragement and sacrifices were acknowledged as a crucial contribution to the graduates’ success.

Celebrating the Graduates

Above all, the event celebrated the graduates: a diverse cohort of professionals from multiple sectors — including defence, emergency services, healthcare, engineering, scientific research, law enforcement, industry, and international organizations. Their achievement represents not only an important academic milestone, but also a commitment to contributing to global safety and resilience.

As they received their diplomas, the graduates formally joined a worldwide network of experts dedicated to understanding, preventing, detecting, and responding to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive threats.

Their presence reflects the mission of the Master Courses: to develop skilled, responsible, and collaborative professionals capable of addressing the most complex challenges of our time.

A Moment of Pride and a New Beginning

The 5 December 2025 graduation ceremony was not only a celebration of academic excellence, but also an affirmation of the values that guide the International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events: scientific rigor, international cooperation, ethical responsibility, innovation, and service to society.

With pride and enthusiasm, the University of Rome Tor Vergata congratulates all the graduates and welcomes them into the global CBRNe community — confident that their expertise will contribute to making the world a safer and more resilient place.
