eNOTICE-2 Project – Final CBRN SimEx and Final Conference

From 25 to 27 November 2025, Dr. Gabriele Giuga had the pleasure of representing the University of Rome Tor Vergata at the Final Conference of the European project eNOTICE-2, a flagship initiative dedicated to strengthening CBRN preparedness, with a special focus on decontamination procedures, VR/XR-based training, and the unique challenges related to supporting vulnerable individuals and prosthetic or life-supporting electronic devices during emergency operations.

Day 1 – 25 November: Consortium Meeting & Final Planning

The event opened with a restricted Consortium Meeting, during which project partners finalized operational details for the Final Table-Top Exercise (TTX) of 26 November and coordinated the agenda of the concluding conference. The session represented an important opportunity to consolidate the rich work carried out across the project lifetime.

Day 2 – 26 November: Final TTX at the Calvarina Base

Hosted in the remarkable setting of Calvarina Base, a former NATO facility recently revitalized, the second day was dedicated to executing the project’s Final TTX, focused on:

“CBRN emergency response in the context of Paralympic Games and introduction to the role of rescEU capacities within the European Civil Protection Mechanism.”

This immersive exercise fostered a high-level exchange among first responders and decision-makers from multiple European countries. It was followed by a hands-on demonstration of the technological advances developed within eNOTICE-2, showcasing:

  • Virtual Reality (VR) solutions for first-responder training in CBRN emergency scenarios;

  • Cutting-edge inclusive approaches, including the decontamination of prosthetic devices and vital electronic equipment for vulnerable populations—opening new possibilities for widespread civil-protection applications.

Day 3 – 27 November: Final Conference at Rocca Sveva, Soave

The project concluded with the Final Conference held at Rocca Sveva in Soave, where Dr. Gabriele Giuga presented the results of the extensive work conducted over the past year together with Prof. Daniele Di Giovanni.

Their contributions included:

  • A structured proposal for enhanced CBRNe training methodologies, based on the identification of strengths and weaknesses across existing European training programs;

  • The design and development of a European Digital Library for CBRNe, aimed at strengthening collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and research among academic institutions, military and civilian training centers, and all organizations involved in CBRNe preparedness

A heartfelt thank-you goes to the organizers, the European partners, and all colleagues who shared insights, ideas, and dedication throughout the project.

For the University of Rome Tor Vergata, special thanks go to Prof. Pasquale Gaudio, Prof. Daniele Di Giovanni, and Dr. Grace Xerri for their continuous support and commitment.

It has been a true pleasure to be part of this journey.

Let’s go ahead!
