Tor Vergata and Ministry of Defence together for CBRNe safety and security

On 11 February 2026, the University of Rome Tor Vergata – Faculty of Medicine and Surgery hosted a high-level institutional event organized in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Defence, dedicated to strengthening national and international cooperation against CBRNe threats.

The day began with a closed-door staff meeting between Professor Nathan Levialdi Ghiron, Rector of the Università di Roma Tor Vergata, and Lieutenant General Giovanni Maria Iannucci, Commander of the Comando Operativo di Vertice Interforze (COVI). The meeting reaffirmed the strategic partnership between academia and defence institutions in addressing emerging hybrid and non-conventional threats.

At 10:00 a.m., institutional greetings were delivered by the Rector and the General, highlighting the importance of an integrated safety–security approach in the current geopolitical landscape. A short presentation of the activities of the International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events followed, outlining their educational, scientific, and operational impact at national and international levels.

The central moment of the event was the Lectio Magistralis delivered by Lieutenant General Iannucci, focused on hybrid warfare and new multidimensional threats. The lecture emphasized the evolving complexity of global security scenarios, the role of interagency coordination, and the increasing relevance of preparedness against CBRNe risks within hybrid conflict environments.

A particularly significant milestone of the day was the renewal of the cooperation agreement with the 7° Reggimento CBRN “Cremona”. The renewal ceremony involved:

  • Professor Roberto Bei, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
  • Professor Luigi Tonino Marsella, Dean of the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention
  • Colonel Dario De Masi, Commander of the 7th CBRN Regiment “Cremona”

This agreement further consolidates operational–academic synergy in training, research, and applied CBRNe preparedness.

The event also marked:

  • The final day of frontal lectures of the 14th Edition of the Second-Level Master in Protection against CBRNe Events
  • The completion of the first academic year of the 9th Edition of the First-Level International Master in Protection against CBRNe Events

Special thanks are extended to all participants and authorities present. Together, we reaffirmed that safety and security are collective responsibilities, achievable only through structured cooperation between institutions.

A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to Professor Pasquale Gaudio for his constant scientific support and to the didactic coordinators Dr. Alba Iannotti and Dr. Colomba Russo for their tireless organizational and academic commitment. We want to thank also all the Master CBRNe Directive Board.

A special thanks to Dr. Emiliano Coha, Alessandro Civia, Massimo D'Abruzzo, Riccardo Pierluigi and all the amazing staff of "Ufficio Cerimoniale di Tor Vergata". You are amazing guys!

Together, we win when we work together.
