Prof Leonardo Palombi (male). Born in Rome on April 28, 1954, Leonardo Palombi graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1979, subsequently obtained a specialization in Hygiene in Medicine and Surgery (1982) and a master's degree in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene.

  • He is currently Full Professor of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health (SSD MED 42) at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the "Tor Vergata" University of Rome
  • From 2012 to 2018, he was elected Director of the University Department of Biomedicine and Prevention at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
  • Since 1989 he has been conducting studies on the demand for out-of-hospital care of community-dwelling older adults
  • Since 1996 Leonardo Palombi has carried out activities as an expert and consultant abroad on behalf of various national and international agencies:
  • Expert of Italian National Health Council for Out-of-Hospital care of community-dwelling older adults
  • With the DGCO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for pediatric programs aimed at controlling malnutrition and infectious diseases in Albania and Kosovo.
  • With the World Bank and UNICEF for the reception and medical assistance to refugees during the conflict in the Balkans.
  • With the World Bank for the treatment of AIDS in Southern Africa, in particular as coordinator of the DREAM Implementation Unit within the Treatment Acceleration Program, the Bank's first project for the treatment of AIDS drugs in Africa.
  • With several European national cooperation (Catalonia, GTZ - Germany, Ireland, France) for the control of infectious diseases and AIDS in Africa.
  • With the World Health Organization for the drafting of guidelines and documents in three distinct areas of the HIV / AIDS sector: prevention of mother-child transmission (PMTCT), control of viral resistance (HIV-RESNET), development of procedures for adherence (Retention network).

Author of over 300 national and international scientific publications, numerous monographs, book chapters, books and popular publications.
